Founder/ Executive Director/Educator

Missy Griffin created and opened the original Growing Room, inc. in 1998 in a one room school in Madeira, Ohio  to answer the question: What is meaningful and valuable in the education of young children? She wanted a space that was welcoming, warm and stimulating for children to come and begin their journey into an academic life with confidence and social competence.  The Growing Room, inc has become her life’s work.

Today, her little one room school with 12 children has grown into four schools with approximately two hundred children but maintains the intimate, warm and loving environment created in 1998.  One of her greatest sources of pride is seeing a past student becoming a successful, kind and confident adult and knowing that she had a little bit to do with that.

Missy lives in a loft in Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband,Mike and her Bichon (who thinks she’s a pit bull), Phoebe .  Her Daughter, Maggie is a member of the first class to graduate from The Growing Room and is now a school social worker in Columbus and is engaged to be married.  Missy’s someday dream is to move to NYC and write a sequel to her children’s book, Gigi’s Window. When not at her “happy place” (TGR), she enjoys visiting her daughter (Mags), cooking, trying new restaurants, painting and traveling with Mike.
